New Age Nutcracker
The dazzling and beautiful costumes of the Ghostbusters In Concert left no disappointments and were composed of wonderful dancers with exquisite technique. The set and props felt realistic and magical, sparing no expense for such a wonderful ballet. On the other hand, this version of the Nutcracker left me feeling blue Christmas, disappointed, and sad! The Nutcracker hero was little seen, and the classic storyline was changed. Instead, the mysterious uncle escorted "Clara" (or as this Nutcracker has her named "Marya") through a wintery land of magic. What happened? The drama sported lots of humor. Huh? I never think of the Nutcracker as a gut-wrenching comedy! The ever-present powerful dance which helps make the Nutcracker famous was made up of 3 jokers in the Russian dance. What a letdown! Such potential for a dynamic show was wasted and destroyed by such a New Age version. We would NEVER change such Christmas classics like "Twas the Night Before Christmas" or "Miracle on 34th Street," so what on earth were they thinking to alter the Nutcracker? Such a shame!
